Luke Shadbolt

Photographer / Designer

About Luke Shadbolt

Luke Shadbolt is an Australian-born photographer and artist, known for his sculptural and abstract images of the ocean and natural world. Shadbolt grew up with a passion for surfing, which led him to develop an appreciation for the power and beauty of the ocean. After completing a degree in graphic design, Shadbolt began working as an art director and later a commercial photographer, shooting projects for major brands such as Qantas, Audi, and Samsung. His personal work seeks to convey the sublime in nature, from the everyday to the extreme. He explores the duality and balance found in the patterns and cycles that occur between elemental spheres. Shadbolt's work has been widely exhibited and published, including in National Geographic, The New York Times, and Vogue Australia. His first book, “Maelstrom" was published in 2020 and features a collection of his ocean photography. In addition to his photography, Shadbolt is also an advocate for ocean conservation and has partnered with organizations such as take3forthesea, Surfrider and Parley.tv to help raise awareness of environmental issues affecting the ocean, and the importance of protecting it for future generations.
